Tell us a little bit about yourself (family, job, sports, military, interests, etc.). I grew up in Marietta, but I currently live in Midtown and just got a puppy that most of you have met. I work in Buckhead in event marketing and tradeshow management—it’s so random, but small fact, I used to work for the PGA Tour. I also coach high school volleyball at St. Pius X, and I used to coach club at A5 but took the last year off, so I still love being a part of sports any way I can. As for my family, I have two older brothers, Jon and Billy. We all still workout as a regular routine in each of our lives; it has always been a priority to us, plus we actually really enjoy it. Jon is married, lives in East Cobb, and he is actually a CF coach. Billy lives in D.C. and currently serving the in the US Navy. I am not married and have zero children.
What were you doing before CrossFit? Before CrossFit, I was cross-training at the gym on my own. I enjoyed it a lot, but I’m also a very competitive person, so this type of training pushes me to push myself. I was also running some, but I hate running.
What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout? Man, I really want to learn how to do pull-ups so I don’t have to use this band.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit? To tone up, lose weight and get skinnier. BUT I feel like those goals change for women once we get comfortable with the idea that is it okay to be strong and okay not to just be a “skinny” girl. I would take being fit and looking athletic over just being skinny, with loose skin and no definition any day!
Have you achieved any of those goals? I would say so. I’m faster and stronger than I used to be. I feel and look fit, and I’m happy with it!
Has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym? Yes, I’m more comfortable in my own skin. I’ve always had an athletic frame, and I wasn’t always confident in it. After being in the atmosphere and around strong women and men, I love and appreciate my abilities and strength.
What advice would you give to a newbie just joining CrossFit? You are stronger than you think. Know your limits, don’t try to Rx if you’re not there yet—you’ll get there. Don’t take shortcuts. Don’t get discouraged—we all have been the person just starting out. Try to go at least 3 times a week consistently or you will not see the results you want. Stick with it, it always feels good after
Something you might not know about me is? I’ve never had a cavity in 28 years of life.
